The Passing of CDR Robert L. Nash
Dear USNPAA Members,
I have very sad news to report—the passing of Commander Bob Nash.
Bob first served his country in the Air Force, went on to college and then earned his commission after completing AOCS. However, a medical issue prevented him from pursuing a career as a naval aviator. After one assignment on a carrier as an aviation maintenance officer, he transferred to our community where he completed his Navy career. He then worked as a college administrator and teacher for 17 years.
I first got to know Bob when he worked for Buzz Rizer as a key member of the Navy Broadcasting Service. It didn’t take Bob very long to demonstrate what a true gentleman he was. In fact, I’d say he defined the word “gentleman.” He was a class act individual.
Bob was one of Commander Mark Baker’s closest friends for 46 years. Mark says Bob would do anything for a friend and will certainly miss him. Mark and Bob met on numerous golf occasions and during Bob’s many visits to San Diego.
Bob and his wife Liz were married for 50 years and had two daughters—Jennifer and Rebecca. When Rebecca, who has spina bifida, was unable to care for her daughter Jessica, Bob and Liz became her legal guardians and raised Jessie who is currently a senior in high school.
Please include Liz, Jennifer, Rebecca, Jessica and the extended Nash family in your prayers.
