The Passing of DMCM Moses L. Jackson, Jr. USN (Ret)
Dear USNPAA Members,
USNPAA Life Member CAPT Joe Mancias, USN (Ret) advised the association that DMCM Moses L. Jackson, Jr. has passed away. Master Chief Moses and CAPT Mancias served together and had been shipmates for 40 years. What follows are his remembrances of Master Chief Jackson’s Navy career:
"DMCM Moses L. Jackson, Jr. USN (Ret) passed away peacefully on May 27, 2024, at 77.
Master Chief Jackson served 35 years on active and reserve duty in Navy Reserve assignments at sea and ashore in reserve units in Norfolk, VA and Washington, DC.
He served as the Graphics and Design Director at the Naval Hospital Bethesda before retiring after 30 years of service, visually depicting medical illustrations for doctors in their research and medical procedures for training and scientific publications.
Master Chief Jackson helped lead the Navy’s Office of Information in pioneering the development and deployment of digital photography in capturing key news events at sea and in transmitting digital images into the Pentagon for release to news outlets.
Master Chief Jackson was known as a great listener, and as a caring leader in delivering direction and guidance to the crews he led. He was awarded two Navy Commendation Medals for his art direction of publications and leadership as a unit Command Master Chief.
He graduated from Oklahoma State University and Howard University earning a master’s in fine arts.
Jackson is survived by his daughter Moniesha Sorter, sister Judy Batson, and brother Larry Jackson. A service honoring his life will be held on June 17, 2024 at 1 p.m. with military honors at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Hwy., Cheltenham, MD. Donations in his memory may be made to Stand Up to Cancer."
