Former Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce President
The Passing of Jack Hornbeck
Dear USNPAA Members,
It’s with deep sadness to report the recent passing of Association member Jack Hornbeck. Many PA community members who served in the Tidewater area will recall Jack as President of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. In fact, Jack’s entire chamber of commerce career was spent in two Navy towns—Norfolk and Pensacola.
Those who worked with Jack in Hampton Roads sought to have a good relationship with the chamber of commerce. Many Navy PA members came to know Jack through their community relations programs. As these relationships developed, Jack held the Navy PA community in high regard—so much so that he joined our Association, even though he wasn’t a PA community member. He is actually one of the few Association members who was not a Navy PA community member (other than spouses). Jack served one tour in the Air Force.
In passing along notification of Jack’s passing, John Carman shared memories of his work with the City of Norfolk and the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce under Jack’s leadership—Nautilus construction, Hampton Roads Naval Museum relocation into Nauticus and the USS WISCONSIN relocation to the berth inside Nauticus.
When Jack retired, he and wife Janice moved to Colorado to be near their daughter and her family.
Jack is survived by Janice, daughter Kimberly, son-in-law David, and young grandson 'Beck’. Please keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time.
