The Passing of Mrs. Beverly Cooney
Dear USNPAA Membership:
It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of Mrs. Beverly Cooney. Bev was the wife of Rear Admiral Dave Cooney who served as the Chief of Information from 1975-1980.
Bev was the model Navy wife and one of the kindest, warmest and most gentle individuals you could ever meet. She loved her job as a Navy wife where she was proud to serve by caring for their growing family and supporting her husband’s 30-year career. She welcomed everyone into the Navy Public Affairs Community and for those of us who knew her, Bev made you feel you were special as a member of the Public Affairs family.
Bev had many interests. One of her jobs was working as a volunteer at the White House under both the Reagan and Bush administrations. Beverly also loved the beach and felt that a day at the beach is the best day possible. That is why she would regale visitors to their home with stories about their tours of duty in Hawaii; Newport; Villefrance, France (Sixth Fleet); and Virginia Beach. She also loved lighthouses, and the only thing that could top a day at the beach was a day spent visiting a lighthouse with a lunch that included a lobster roll and a chocolate dessert.
Bev and Dave Cooney leave a legacy of accomplished children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be laid to rest with David in a private family graveside service at Arlington National Cemetery.
Please remember the Cooney family as they mourn the loss of a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and Navy wife.
