USS Richard M. McCool (LPD 29) Memorial Plaque Campaign
Dear USNPAA Members,
I trust this letter finds you well and that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
I am reaching out to follow up on a previous request for your support of the USNPAA campaign to create a memorial plaque for the soon-to-be-commissioned USS RICHARD M. MCCOOL (LPD 29) – the first ship ever named after a designated Navy Public Affairs Officer.
We’re very thankful to the USNPAA members who have donated $1,370 towards the cost of $2,300 thus far, but we need additional help to get us over the finish line!
Every contribution, no matter the size, is tax deductible and will play a vital role in ensuring the success of this campaign, which we hope to complete by December 31, 2023.
Production of the plaque will take several weeks, so it is important that we make the final payment as soon as possible so the plaque can be mounted while the ship is still under construction in Pascagoula, MS.
You’ll recall that the ship’s Executive Officer informed us that the ship's crew, while aware of Richard McCool's Medal of Honor during WWII, knows little about his significant contributions in the field of public affairs after the war. To rectify this, we aim to commemorate and celebrate his life and service on a 20x34-inch bronze plaque that will not only bear the words of his Medal of Honor citation but will also note his post-war public affairs assignments.
Your generous contributions will not only help educate the crew of the MCCOOL about the man behind the ship's name but will also serve as a lasting tribute to one of our own, an exemplary public affairs officer whose impact resonates through the years.
To donate, please use our new Cash App account ($USNPAA) or write your check to “USNPAA” and mail it to:

Thank you in advance for your support!
Sincerely,
