PHCS Bob Carlisle, USN (Ret) to Celebrate 100th Birthday
Dear USNPAA Members,
I’m delighted to report that one of our members is about to celebrate a momentous event—his 100th birthday. Bob Carlisle, who many ‘old timers’ know, managed CHINFO’s photo department for several years. His voluminous files of photos were meticulously kept. There wasn’t a Navy photo he couldn’t produce for the news media or commands that were looking for a particular image. Bob’s pride in his work and in his ’shop’ was obvious.
The Navy and every other organization has progressed to digital imagery, but those of us who worked in the days of ‘hard copy’ photographs had a deep respect for Bob. Clearly, he is not just a CHINFO icon but a Navy icon as well.
The Winter Haven Sun, Bob’s hometown newspaper in Florida, did a feature on Bob two years ago. It’s a fascinating piece that does a beautiful job capturing Bob’s unbelievable life story—and his very colorful personality. Link
