A Message from the New USNPAA President
Dear USNPAA Members,
I am honored and humbled to serve as your new president. I believe that the USNPAA is the premier resource for current and former Navy Public Affairs professionals, since we have a vital role to play in helping you stay informed, connected, and trained. I look forward to continuing the great work of my predecessors in supporting the organization’s mission to do all of that – and more.
Special thanks to Tom Jurkowsky for five years of amazing service as the USNPAA President, but even more for a career commitment to outstanding leadership within this community.
For the many of you I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting, I was a 1650 from 1993-1998, serving in CHINFO Plans & Policy, on the Navy News Desk and as the Aide to RADM Kendall Pease, before heading to London to be the Deputy PAO at CINCUSNAVEUR. Over the next 25+ years, I worked in some amazing companies as a corporate communications and business leader, but I have always harkened back to my Navy PAO experiences as the cornerstone of the great career success I enjoyed.
I’m now at a position in my career where I’d like to give back to the community that gave so much to me.
As I get my feet wet in the new role, I will work with the USNPAA board of directors and our members on the following priorities:
Strengthen the USNPAA: Developing ways to make the organization even more effective in supporting our members and the Navy.
Growing our financial resources: Finding creative ways to increase the value proposition of your membership in USNPAA by developing the wherewithal to fund more programming and services.
Increasing membership and engagement: Expanding the number of current and former enlisted, officer and civilian public affairs professionals at all levels who regularly engage with and within our organization, while ensuring that the USNPAA is a more diverse and inclusive organization where everyone feels welcome and valued.
Professional development: Mentoring, training, and resources that can help you be more successful throughout the lifecycle of your professional career – inside and outside the Navy.
Networking: Digital tools that allow you regularly and more easily connect with other members well beyond the reunion events to catch up, share best practices and help each other continue to grow.
Advocacy: Creating channels for our members to help the Navy build more trust and understanding with the American people and the world as it faces a range of issues and threats that the public is increasingly divided on.
Expanding our reach: Working with other service public affairs associations, as well as select private sector public relations organizations to share best practices and increase visibility of the expertise within the Navy Public Affairs profession.
I am excited to begin this new chapter in the USNPAA's history. I encourage you to feel free to reach out to me with your ideas, suggestions, and concerns over time, since that two-way dialogue will help us to better serve you.
I look forward to working with all of you to build a stronger and more effective Navy Public Affairs community.
Respectfully,
David Albritton
