USNPAA Plankowner and Life Member
The Passing of CAPT David L. Woods
Dear USNPAA Members,
It’s with sadness that I report the death of Captain Dave Woods, a longtime USNPAA member. We just learned of Dave’s passing in December.
Dave was a reserve PAO who also served in his civilian capacity as the chief speech writer for the Chief of Navy Material (NAVMAT for us old-timers). Dave also served as the president of the Reserve Officers Association (ROA) from 1985-1986. Dave made a special impact on reservists as a kind mentor for many young officers
Those who knew Dave will remember him as a colorful character with a great sense of humor. He was an outstanding writer. In fact, he authored several books on the history of communications and was a frequent contributor to Proceedings. Dave also contributed to the Martinsburg (West Virginia) Journal and Hagerstown (Maryland) Herald Mail. Heavily involved in West Virginia politics, he served as a state delegate.
Dave is survived by his wife, Captain Jeanne-Renee Jones; five daughters; five grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
