USNPAA Reunion Award Recipients Announced
Dear USNPAA Members,
On behalf of our Board of Directors, it is my pleasure to announce the distinguished recipients of our 2023 USNPAA Awards. Please join us on Sept. 8 to recognize these distinguished individuals.
The USNPAA Annual Award for Exemplary Service is presented to an active duty enlisted person designated by the Navy Chief of Information (CHINFO), in conjunction with the CHINFO Sailor of the Year Competition. This year’s recipient is MC2 Samantha T. Jetzer, who was selected as the CHINFO 2022 Junior MC of the Year. She received this honor while serving as Deputy PAO for Pacific Missile Range Facility, Barking Sands, Hawaii. Recently selected for MC1, she is currently attending the Navy Detachment “C” School at the Defense Information School (DINFOS). She has orders to Joint Region Marianas, Guam, and will report shortly before the award presentation. She will receive the award at our reunion dinner at the Army Navy Country Club on Sept. 8, 2023.
The CAPT Thomas Coldwell Award for Significant Achievement honors a USNPAA member for significant achievement in any area of endeavor after service with the Navy. Since July 2009, CDR Bob Ross, USN (Ret.), has served as Executive Director, Office of Military Affairs, State of Connecticut. In addition to advising the Governor and legislature on defense industry issues, he serves as liaison to the Connecticut congressional delegation on defense issues and represents the state in enhancing the quality of life for service members and military families residing in, or deploying from, Connecticut. In addition, he served two years as President of the Association of Defense Communities (ADC), which represents communities, counties, and states nationwide that host military bases. He will receive his award at our reunion dinner at the Army Navy Country Club on Sept. 8, 2023.
The USNPAA Distinguished Service Award recognizes a group or a non-member who have distinguished themselves not only in the area of public affairs or its related fields but who has had a salutary effect on a project or program that has benefited mankind or enhanced the lifestyle of those in need. In 2017 CAPT Roger Hirsh, USN (Ret.), singlehandedly undertook a successful 5-year project to establish a U.S. Navy vanity license plate for the State of Virginia, with proceeds from the sales to going to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS). These license plate sales are estimated at 20,000 a year, which would generate $300,000 for NMCRS in annual revenue.
You are invited to join us for the award presentations at the Reunion Welcome Reception and Dinner at Army Navy Country Club on Sept. 8. All you have to do is register for the full reunion or just the Friday dinner. Here is a link for the registration form. In addition to the award presentations, this event includes a rooftop reception, three-course dinner, and remarks by RADM John Kirby, USN (Ret.), former CHINFO and current National Security Council (NSC) Coordinator for Strategic Communications.
I hope you will join us at Reunion 2023 to recognize and congratulate these outstanding award recipients. Don’t miss the Aug. 17 deadline for reunion registration and the Aug. 8 deadline for the Hilton Garden Inn hotel room block.
Sincerely,
Tom Jurkowsky
