New MC SRB Program
Mass Communication Specialist Selective Reenlistment Bonus (SRB)
Dear USNPAA Members:
Some of you, especially some of us ‘old timers,’ will find this very interesting—reenlistment bonuses for Mass Communication Specialists (MCs).
The reenlistment bonuses were announced in a recent announcement from the public affairs community manager’s office. This is how it will work for MCs:
— All first term Sailors who are considered to be in Zone A (between 17 months to 6 years of service) are eligible for a 0.5 Selective Reenlistment Bonus (SRB).
— Let’s assume an MC completes five years of service and picks up E-5. He or she opts to reenlist for a four-year shore tour after a sea tour. The current multiple is 0.5.
— His or her basic pay as an E-5 with over four years of service is currently $3,199.19/month.
— If he/she obligates to serve for 48 months, the reenlistment bonus would be $6,398.38. (I could go through the calculations but it’s not necessary for purposes of this note).
— If an individual chose to reenlist for 72 months, the bonus would obviously be higher (approximately $9,600.00).
I found this initiative very interesting. Let’s hope it will help retain some of our talented enlisted communicators.
