The Passing of CDR Rudolph "Rudy" Brewington
Dear USNPAA Members,
We are very saddened to report the recent passing of CDR Rudolph “Rudy” Brewington.
Although many of us knew Rudy as a Naval reservist, few knew about his enlistment in the Marine Corps right after high school graduation in 1964. His first assignment was to the prestigious Presidential Honor Guard at the Marine Barracks in Washington. In 1967 he deployed to South Vietnam. He also served in the Army Reserve before becoming a Naval reservist.
After attaining several degrees, Rudy held a range of broadcast positions in the Washington area. These included being a reporter, anchor, sportscaster, news director and talk show host. Among his many broadcast journalism achievements was his co-founding “Black Agenda Reports,” a nationally syndicated radio production company. Rudy also co-founded a television production company, B&B Productions, that produced several award-winning shows.
Rudy’s many other awards included being nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, winning an Emmy and several AP Spot News Awards.
As a Naval reservist, Rudy was recalled to active duty in 1990 during the Persian Gulf War and served in CHINFO.
Rudy was actively involved in countless community groups and organizations.
Those of us who knew Rudy will always remember his demeanor as a gentleman and his kindness.
Rest in peace, Rudy.
